The 11th of February is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

In the past, women were not allowed to work because men thought that girls should stay at home and take care of their brothers and sisters. Nowadays, girls can go to school and women can work. However, when it comes to Science women are underrepresented.

Some people cannot see any problem and believe that discrimination is not taking place anymore, but it is still happening and something needs to be done.

Since the 11th of February is not a very popular date not many people are going to celebrate this important date. I think commemorating this day for the first time in 2016 was a good decision. It is important that schools encourage girls to get involved in Science.

Women need Science, Science needs women!
